Getting to Skye...

Glenachulish ferry For the adventurous, the Glenelg to Skye ferry - the world's last hand-operated turntable ferry - is a must.  But due to the weather & fierce tidal flows, it closes in the winter months.
Some say the journey, over an alpine-like pass, from Sheil Bridge to Glenelg is almost as unforgettable as the ferry crossing itself...
CalMac Ferries link Skye to the mainland at Armadale, & to the Outer Hebrides at Uig, in the north of the island.

Part of the A87, it speeds you over the Kyle of Localsh to Portree or, if you are coming to Rowan Cottage, to the turn-off at Broadford towards Loch Slapin, Elgol, & Glasnakille.
